As we start our Advent series looking at the “Incarnation” (God becoming human) we will be thinking about God choosing to send His Son into the world – an event we remember in the birth of Jesus at Christmas.

And getting behind the traditional (and really important) Christmas story we will see that this really shows God’s love for us and the wonderful things it has made possible.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. (1 John 4:10)

Reading: 1 John 4:7-16

Questions to think about:

  • How does the fact that God sent his Son into the world for us strike you?
  • 1 John 4:9, 10 & 14 gives three reasons why God sent his Son. How would you summarise these? How do you respond to them?
  • How are we going to respond to that love, what difference is it going to make in our lives?

Due to technical problems, no recording of this sermon is available. Apologies.
