In our evening services for the next few weeks we will be thinking about the “Wisdom Literature” – Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs – and asking ourselves what they tell us about God, their insight into some of the challenges of life and how we can apply them in the situations we find ourselves.

We start with an introduction to the topic – including a quick overview of each book – and remind ourselves that ultimate wisdom comes from God and requires us to be living in a good relationship with Him. A totally different understanding to that held by many people today – what do we think about this, how will we respond?

Reading: Proverbs 1:1-7

Questions to think about:

  • How familiar are you with the “Wisdom Literature” in the Bible? Are there parts that you find particularly helpful or that you struggle with?
  • How can we best apply the Biblical “Wisdom Literature” to our lives today?
  • What do you think about when you come across the term “the fear of the Lord” (Proverbs 1:7 and elsewhere)? How can this attitude help us in our relationship with God?
