Having spoken about the importance of staying focused on Jesus, Paul switches focus to the impact that should have on our lives as we recognise the wonderful blessings God has poured upon us.

In light of those Paul encourages the believers to get rid of things that are not consistent with living as a follower of Jesus and to wrap ourselves in attitudes and actions that are honouring to God and a blessing to others.

And, while recognising the reality that we are all united in Jesus, he calls on us to honour each other in the relationships that we share.

Are we prepared to take these things on board and really live as God’s people – not just for our own benefit but so that those who are not currently believers will see a different, and attractive, way of living and want to find out about it for themselves?

Questions to think about:

  • What practical difference does “setting your hearts on things above” (Col 3:1) make in your daily lives?
  • How could you / do you “clothe yourselves” with the virtues Paul describes in verses 12-17?
  • Are there things in what Paul says in Col 3:18-4:1 that challenge you about your relationship with other believers? If so, what are you going to do about it?
