At the church AGM on Thursday we discussed some of the reasons for those in their 20s-30s not, in general, engaging with God, faith or church. Many of the things discussed were based on a recent report and it was requested that the report be made available on our website, so here it is.
Please review, reflect and pray about what it says and how we can most effectively share the good news of Jesus with this group of people.
Please add your comments to this post as part of our discussion about this important part of our church life and witness.

If these young people are millennial not that I like names like that for it makes me wonder what I am and what sort of group I belong to. Yes there is a serious point to this, they are missing out on what Gods love means. I am sure they to think we are strange not understanding social media.
Yes there must be ground on which we could meet, but the church needs to be taught more about social media, and what it means to the millennial. We must also up date or change church language, so they to will understand what we are saying.
My generation likes to converse face to face, which can make us very limited, unlike social media where your best friend can be the other side of the world.
I feel the church needs to sit down and talk about this and soon, or it could be to late. If the church could talk as well to the millennial as well the change could happen for both sides. So let us learn social media and teach them about Gods Love now.
I struggle with labels as well. Sometimes they are useful but important that we don’t think that they completely define a group and that everyone “in it” acts and thinks the same.
I think social media will be important for how we engage as a church and we need to work out how to do it authentically. But I don’t think we all need to become social media experts – for some of us it will be more appropriate to engage in different ways.
